The lake was originally built in 1982 by the previous owners and covered 5 acres to depth of up to 6 metres. The island was originally 1/3rd its present size. By January 2003, the entire east side from the island was dry. In April 2003, we scraped the east side and changed the lake design, trebling the size of the island and deepening it around the island A peninsula was constructed north from the small silt dam at the south east corner to protect the area behind, which had been planted in 2002 with species intended to cope with periods of waterlogging. The work took 3 weeks using a small excavator and 2 tractors. In Feb 2010 the depth fell below the 2003 level but there were still parts, where it was too deep to stand up. In Spring 2010, the lake finally filled and during summer 2010/2011 overflowed 3 times due to drought breaking rains (1098mm almost 2 times average). Many trees east of peninsula did not survive waterlogging but the area is now a wetland, good habitat for yabbies. Unlike previous overflow events eg Spring 2000, water did not flow over the driveway, which we attribute to the Lake work 2003. Estimated Capacity = 80 megalitres.
